Books selected for the Braille Tails project are transcribed and checked for accuracy by certified Braille transcribers. The transcribed text is entered into a computer and formatted to resemble the printed text as closely as possible.
This Braille embossing machine can produce up to 1600 pages per hour.
The Braille text is then embossed onto clear plastic panels with an adhesive backing.
The plastic Braille panels are affixed to the book pages with a strong, permanent adhesive.
The clear Braille labels provide accessibility to the blind reader, while allowing the book text and illustrations to remain visible for sighted readers.
The finished product is a beautiful book that can be read by sighted and visually-impaired readers!
